TAHLEQUAH [mdash] Jerry Leon Latty, 81, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was born in Tahlequah on December 27, 1943, to James Henry Latty and Hazel (Eden) Latty. Jerry grew up in various communities but always called Tahlequah home. He graduated from Tahlequah High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts from Northeastern State University, after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He married the love of his life, Carolyn, during his military service, and together they shared nearly 57 years of marriage. They raised three children and built a home rooted in love, music, and hard work. A lifelong public servant and tireless worker, Jerry wore many hats—soil conservation technician, teacher, small business owner, farmer, two terms as Cherokee County Commissioner, and finished his career as City Administrator of Tahlequah. During that time and in retirement he served on numerous local and state boards for over 40 years. His contributions to the community were recognized by the Mayor of Tahlequah with the proclamation of Jerry Latty Day on June 25th. Even in retirement, Jerry remained active, serving as Director of Housing for Cookson Hills Community Action. He enjoyed classic cars, tractors, traveling, card games, and playing music. His home was open every Tuesday for "music night" with friends and family. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Coy and Lorene Anderson; sisters-in-laws Diana Anderson and Bobbie Latty; brother-in-law Bob Beck, and niece, Lana Snyder. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Latty; children: Aaron Latty (Jenny), Sheena Long (Shelby), and Jerry Don Latty (Mindy); five grandchildren: Tanner Long (Abby), Braydee Long (Corbyn), Jerry Wayne Latty, Justin Latty (Cassidy), and Jake Latty; and two great-grandchildren: Leighton Long and Houston Latty. One brother, Gary (Sandy) Latty (Julia); sister-in-law Sharon Beck, brother-in-law Ronald Anderson (Kim).
