Overall, 28,422 people were on waiting lists to see an audiologist in May, a 40 per cent increase on the 20,000 awaiting this treatment in 2020. Of those on current waiting lists, 11,076 were found to be waiting more than 12 months for care. The data showed that waiting lists are largest in the HSE Dublin and Midlands region, with 6,976 people waiting for audiology care there. Another 5,811 people are on audiology waiting lists in Dublin and North East, while a similar number (5,808) are waiting in the West and North West. In contrast, the HSE Mid West region had the fewest people on their audiology waiting lists, with 2,515.
