The second reason why focusing on potential is so important, in addition to Linda’s point, is the fact that that is essential for people to remain competitive and high-performing in such a volatile world. Many of the examples that we saw, Amy– of people who were developing some of this capacity to learn to lead innovation, and lead in these different ways– they were put in very uncomfortable leadership positions, where many of them were put in sort of self-organized teams, where there was no clear, quote, leader. So I think that doing more of that– letting people volunteer, as opposed to us thinking we know– will also uncover a lot of talent, and give people more people access to the experiences they need to develop some of these qualities a little bit more, that they may already have.
