SARAH GREEN: So if you did not find a lot of evidence to support the idea that you can explain the lack of women at the top– the relative lack of women at the top– by their childbearing decisions, why does this sort of myth persist in the media that the reason you don’t see more female CEOs is that women are just opting out? I think it’s important for men and women to understand that it’s going to be harder for women to realize their career dreams, given the market advantage that men still enjoy, and given the strong cultural message that women are better equipped to care for children.
