Basically, in every generation or so there’s a new popular article complaining about HR, and the complaints are all from people who are in other parts of the business and HR is making them do things they don’t want to do. SARAH GREEN: I think in this characterization, HR, they’re portrayed as the experts on all kinds of human interactions and policies, but that sounds like actually the best case scenario– that you would have this expert HR department that is educating, whether they like it or not, managers in how to do their jobs better and how to manage more humanely. And the HR people often say, no, we can’t pay that person more, and then that person quits and leaves and the manager says HR cost us this job.
