Be a Work/Life-Friendly Boss

So a manager might say to her staff, don’t work on the weekends, or don’t work at night, or may even say, I saw you sending emails last night at 9:00 PM. And then, I think a lot of managers worry that if they give their star employee that perk or if they talk about the fact that, well, so and so works from home, or so and so has these flexible hours, they’re worried that some of the not so star employees will ask for it, too. Because we did publish some research, maybe, almost a year ago now, that showed that, actually, people do tend to hide these arrangements, and that people who don’t know about them– supervisors who don’t know about them– can’t tell the difference between the people working flexible hours and the people working 90 hours a week.
