This episode about being heard tackles three aspects of communication: first, how and why women’s speech patterns differ from men’s; second, how women can be more assertive in meetings; and third, how women can deal with interrupters (since the science shows women get interrupted more often than men do). NICOLE TORRES: So far, we’ve been talking a lot about how to make ourselves heard at work and how to help the women we work with speak up. SARAH GREEN CARMICHAEL: I have actually found that here, at least in the meetings I’ve tracked it in, it’s about 50 percent men talking and 50 percent women which is really pretty good although I also have realized that sometimes in those cases, women make up more than 50 percent of the group.
