SARAH GREEN CARMICHAEL: If people loved to help so much, even strangers are willing to help, why don’t more people offer help? HEIDI GRANT: You know that’s a really good question and that’s another one of the things that I focus on a lot in the book are a lot of the misconceptions we have about why people aren’t helping us. As a leader you can be very much sort of a helpfulness role model, by being sort of public in going out of your way to be helpful to people and then people on the team, you can expect not only sort of the norms to change, but you can also expect reciprocity.
