Huntingdonshire District Council's Cabinet agreed to sign leases which have secured the major expansion of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, in St Neots. The new lease incorporates the land adjacent to Paxton Pits. Once gravel extraction and restoration works are complete on the land, Paxton Pits will eventually expand from 78 hectares to 280 hectares. The council hope to make Paxton Pits one of the county's most accessible green spaces. The expansion is the result of a partnership between Holcim UK, Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, the Friends of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, landowners and the community.
