The Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) is probably the easiest to identify with a graceful flight and iridescent blue or green body. It is hard to miss beside rivers and streams in this region, and especially on Holt Island. In contrast, the female, though striking with a shiny green body, can merge into the vegetation. Mating typically takes place in the air with the mating pair in a wheel formation looking like sparkling blue hoops on the breeze. The growth period typically takes two years.
