JLR has confirmed it cannot restart production on new vehicles until at least September 24 after the business was hacked at the start of the month. In its latest update statement JLR said it has taken the decision to continue its pause in production “as our forensic investigation of the cyber incident continues, and as we consider the different stages of the controlled restart of our global operations, which will take time. David Bailey, professor of business economics at Birmingham University, has urged the Government to step in with emergency measures to support vulnerable suppliers affected by the production pause. Bailey estimated that as many as 250,000 people work in JLR’s supply chain. JLR said it was “working around the clock” to resume production, including bringing in third-party cyber security specialists and introducing workarounds to keep some activity running.
