Half of dealers say Electric Car Grant is “useful boost” for sector
['Tom Seymour']
News news
Almost half of dealers (48%) believe the Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) will provide a “useful boost” for the market.
The September Startline Used Car Tracker, which polled 60 dealerships and 301 consumers, shows 43% think anything that makes electric cars more accessible is a good idea, while 27% welcome the fact the scheme favours UK-built models.
However, 40% say a lack of access to chargers is a bigger barrier to adoption than affordability.
A further 32% believe the environmental impact-based banding system used to calculate grants is too complex.
Other concerns include 28% who think the initiative could push electric car residual values down further, 25% who would prefer to see a similar scheme designed to support demand for used EVs, and 20% who believe the grant does not cover enough models.
