Leapmotor confirms plans to build EVs in Europe
['Tom Seymour']
News news
Leapmotor has confirmed plans to produce electric vehicles (EV) in Spain as part of its European expansion strategy.
Building in Europe will enable Leapmotor to avoid EU tariffs of more than 20% on EVs imported from China.
Filosa said: "We will give Leapmotor some capacity out of one of our Spanish plants to build their cars and that will start very soon.
The Zaragoza plant, which already produces the Peugeot 208, Vauxhall Corsa, is expected to be the most likely location for shared production.
The brand, which is a 51:49 joint venture between Chinese EV brand Leapmotor International and Stellantis Group, is establishing a network of 80 dealerships across the UK.
