MG, BYD and other Chinese car manufacturer newcomers have powered a 121% surge in registrations across Europe to a 5.5% market share in August, outpacing established brands like Audi and Renault. Although registrations by Chinese car brands comprise 40 different brands, the top five players (MG, BYD, Jaecoo, Omoda, Leapmotor) account for 84% of the total. BEV registrations increased by 27% compared with August 2024, lifting BEV share to a new record of 20.2%. With higher tariffs on BEV imports into Europe, several Chinese brands have shifted focus toward PHEVs.
