The Davis station is the most southerly Australian Antarctic facility, and is set to be upgraded in a ‘landmark initiative’, known as the Antarctic Infrastructure Renewal Program, which will see Australia provide ‘generational investment’ into its Antarctic sites. Hugh Broughton also plans to replace the stations water production systems and construct a new main powerhouse for the site. Hugh Broughton said: ‘The Antarctic Infrastructure Program demonstrates Australia’s commitment to Antarctic science through an innovative and sustainable approach which will provide a benchmark for efficient, modular construction.’The practice has designed a number of polar facilities. AdvertisementOn the Davis station, Hugh Broughton Architects will work with the newly appointed Program Alliance, a collaboration of ‘world-class construction contractors’, which plan to take on further projects after Davis is completed. The members of the alliance include the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), Bouygues Construction, Mott MacDonald and Stantec.
