Comment on Can architects work shorter hours for more pay? by Christopher Darling
['David Green']
Comments for The Architects’ Journal
The first is that other staff are paid less or work longer hours themselves, or owners take smaller dividends.
So, getting more senior staff to be paid less or inducing clients to pay more seems challenging, to say the least.
This leaves by default the only other possibility of finding resources to pay more or work shorter hours: by increasing efficiency.
Both the actions they can take to remedy the situation and the recommendations of the RIBA task force are needed urgently.
If the fees issue is not addressed, young architects will not be faced with long hours or low pay.
