The detailed application, for developer Urban Splash, was submitted to Sheffield City Council last week (16 September). The 1963 building, designed by YRM, was originally the flagship department store for retail company Cole Brothers. The building was listed by then-culture secretary Nadine Dorries in 2022 despite Sheffield City Council’s application for a Certificate of Immunity from Listing (COI). The following year, the council appointed Urban Splash and AHMM to redevelop the building. AdvertisementAHMM’s scheme would bring the post-war architectural icon ‘back to life’, integrating leisure, entertainment, shopping, as well as office space.
