I have what neuroscientists call aphantasia, a complete lack of visual imagination: the way I think and interact with reality, it turns out, lacks something that the vast majority of people would swear they couldn't live without. I will begin, then, with a description of my own different sense of what a "normal" imagination has been like throughout my life with aphantasia.
