Warning as vapes spark fires in bin lorries
['Alexandra Cooke']
Ludlow Advertiser | News
The fires in Malvern Hills District Council's lorries were possibly caused by improperly discarded vapes.
The lithium-ion batteries in vapes can become damaged during collection, leading to overheating and igniting.
It also damages collection vehicles and results in waste being sent for disposal instead of recycling.
Residents are asked to stop putting vapes and other small electrical items in their recycling and general waste bins.
Councillor Jeremy Owenson, portfolio holder for environment at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "The batteries found in vapes, old phones, and other small electronics can be extremely dangerous if not disposed of correctly.
