Without this change I wouldn't have felt comfortable proposing Balrog work for Summer of Code, and I highly doubt we would've had many (if any) volunteers working on it. All the work I just talked about to reduce developer friction made this a non-issue for Balrog, and opened the door to start advertising good first bugs, and applying for Summer of Code. In the past this may have been a huge headache, but because of Balrog's flexible design we were able to get them working quite quickly, and make some improvements later.
