MOST babies communicate by making a noise or by sign language such as raising their arms to be picked up or cuddled. Our daughter and her husband brought up their three sons on sign language before they could speak. Learning sign language meant that our grandsons seldom, if ever, cried out of frustration of not being understood. As adults we can learn good communication skills from watching our children and how they respond best to us. Our nine grandchildren have the confidence to try new things and learn from their mistakes because of the good communication skills from their parents.
