New features include a gym, an art room, a sensory room, a kitchen, and a theater. The proposed city ordinance would ban the planting of trees in right of ways, usually the space between sidewalk and curb on a property. Current rules say that trees are allowed in right of ways, but must be maintained by property owners. The city council proposed the ordinance to reduce taxpayer burden, as the city is responsible for removing trees if they die or are diseased. Opponents to the ordinance highlighted the shade and the aesthetic impact the trees provide, and at last week’s city council meeting, made their voices heard to the council.
