Railway station project under threat as council cuts back on borrowing

The council is cutting back on borrowing, which means a £12 million scheme to upgrade Redditch Railway Station is at risk.
Cabinet members will discuss the plans as part of an update on council finances next week - but changes to the capital programme will need to be signed-off at the next full council meeting in November.
“The current programme had assumed continued levels of DfT Maintenance Funding plus the additional borrowing in order to maintain the current condition of carriageways,” the council says.
A £209 million capital programme was approved in February under the council’s former Conservative administration.
But its current Reform leadership wants to cut capital spending and has already scrapped plans to build a new school in Worcester.
