Brave Conversations, a campus dialogue hosted by Student Leadership & Involvement (SLI) and the Bennion Center, brought students and faculty together on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to discuss firearms and the impact of the university’s new open carry policy. Lastly, participants reflected on how the dialogue shaped their perspectives and the unexpected common ground they discovered at their tables. The Chronicle did not use quotes from the actual discussions in order to preserve participants’ privacy and comfort. “I think there’s a lot of different perspectives on campus, and it’s good to hear from different points of view,” Menzdorf said. “I’ve seen really good conversations with people and I’ve seen really bad conversations with people,” Ostler said.
