One person was hospitalized after an occupied Amtrak train crashed into construction machinery near a Metra station in Lake Forest Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake Forest Police Department responded around 12:04 p.m. Sunday to the area of Everett Road and Waukegan Road for a report of a train crash.
Police said the front-end loader had been struck by a southbound Amtrak train that was heading to Chicago.
The construction equipment operator was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators from Lake Forest, Amtrak, Metra and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern (CPKC) Railroad are processing the scene and working to clear the crash site.
