A judge on Tuesday allowed a Crystal Lake man to withdraw his guilty plea for stealing from a veterans group in McHenry as he also awaits federal sentencing in a separate $8 million Ponzi scheme. McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis scheduled a sentencing hearing for Hanke for September 26. Last month, attorney Albert Wysocki, who is newly representing Hanke, filed a motion to have his client’s guilty plea withdrawn. As part of his plea, Hanke also admitted that he filed a bankruptcy petition and documents in a bankruptcy proceeding to conceal the conspiracy. A sentencing hearing in the case was initially scheduled for October 31 and then delayed multiple times.
