Hype Studies as a field of research offers an overdue examination of the political theory of hype, including its role in AI as a substitute for political imagination. What compels people to believe in AI hype is that it offers a vision of the future — a political vision that should be rejected. There is an opportunity to dismantle AI hype and to focus on what AI is: a method of processing information.
