A significant closure of Runway 9-27 at Boston Logan International Airport could cause flight delays over the next two months. The runway closure began on Sept. 2 and is expected to last for 75 daysThe announcement by Massport in a news release noted that the closure will impact the number of planes that can land and take off at Boston Logan. By the evening of Thursday, Sept. 18, 33% of the day's flights out of Logan Airport had been delayed, according to a flight-tracking website. MassLive reported that the ongoing runway closure is the first of two 75-day closures that airport officials have planned to allow for the installation of a “vital” new safety system intended to stop planes that have overshot the runway. “Due to the geography around the airport, this system is extremely important and is a FAA-approved method for achieving safety standards,” Massport noted in its release.
