Pre-school students in the Head Start program sing a quiet song before the teachers read to the class. “We couldn’t be more thankful to have young people back on this historic campus,” says Dustin Cravins, Holy Rosary Redevelopment Corporation board president. The Head Start program serves approximately 300 students in Lafayette, providing free early childhood education for kids ages six weeks to five years old from low-income families. Currently, Lafayette classes through the federally-funded program are offered by Prime Time at Holy Rosary and Immaculate Heart of Mary. “My mom was smart enough to put me in [Head Start],” says Chassion.
