A major road and sidewalk improvement project is about to get underway at one of Portland’s busiest intersections. Portland Public Works says construction at Congress Square, where Congress and High Streets meet, will begin at the end of the month. WGME reports that the project includes resurfacing the intersection, upgrading sidewalks, installing new traffic signals, and adding better lighting and landscaping. The news station indicated that some sections of Congress and High Streets will be reduced to a single lane during construction. Public Works says crews will work to limit disruption as much as possible for pedestrians and nearby businesses.
