Quest for the LanternfishCold winter followed cold winter, but Norwegian diver Rudolf Svensen never gave up on his quest to photograph an elusive deep-dweller. Some scientists had told me that lanternfish approached the surface at night to feed on northern krill and other small animals. We would hang on the line for around an hour, looking for lanternfish and other pelagic creatures. It’s exciting to glide through the water like this, and we found quite a lot of lanternfish. Males have a small light organ above the caudal (tail) fin, while females have two small organs below it.
