‘AI job apocalypse’Take the case of recent media coverage of artificial intelligence. In fact, two other major studies looking at the effects of the California minimum wage increase have been published in recent months. It opened with a worker whose wage had increased as a result of the minimum wage change, but whose hours had been cut. The gloomiest study suggests that only around a third of the aggregate wage increase spurred by the minimum wage hike was offset by job losses. The AI job loss story, in particular, has the potential to capture the favor of a public already inclined to distrust AI.
