Many Latin America and the Caribbean countries will need significant help as the world emerges from the pandemic. The full economic impact on Latin America and the Caribbean of the coronavirus contraction will almost certainly be worse even than many of the international financial organizations expect —and these organizations expect things to be bad. If Latin America seriously lags behind North America and Europe in its recovery, the problems that bedeviled these countries before the pandemic will come roaring back and likely ulcerate at an accelerated rate.
