DAYTON, Ohio — Her day started before sunrise. Even though she had been up with the baby a few hours earlier, Brittany Baker lifted herself from the bed at 5, on a morning in June. She moved with slow, tiny steps across the carpet she was so proud to keep clean despite three youngsters running around the apartment.
