After facing a legal challenge to his eligibility due to his involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection, U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-NC, filed a lawsuit on Monday against the state of North Carolina claiming that the election statute in question is unconstitutional. Free Speech for People brought a challenge on Jan. 10 to the North Carolina Board of Elections, attempting to disqualify Cawthorn from running in 2022, citing his involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
