Last month, The Washington Post calculated that Trump had used it “just 59 times on Truth Social, his social media site, in the past two years—fewer times than he wrote about it on Twitter in October 2016 alone.” As the journalist David Dayen put it, Trump’s transition team and early appointments are full of people “better known for paying the lobbyists than being them.” The campaign offered a positive spin on this in a statement: “The Transition will not utilize taxpayer funding for costs related to the transition, which is consistent with President Trump’s commitment to save taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”
