ASHEVILLE – The Buncombe County Democratic Party has tapped an environmental advocate, volunteer firefighter and community organizer to fill an open seat on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. Buncombe County is the only county in the state that must follow N.C. House maps for its own board districting. While most county boards in the state aren’t required to follow a party’s recommendation to fill a vacancy, Buncombe County is one of 42 that must, according to state law.
