Recorded speeds have included 45mph in Conwy and Gwynedd, 51mph in Denbighshire, and 43mph on Anglesey. The Journal obtained this information after asking North Wales Police to name the roads in each of these four counties where the highest speeds have been recorded on 20mph roads since September 2023. For each incident, North Wales Police was also asked to disclose the speed recorded, the vehicle involved, and the date. But the public backlash led to a review of the policy, and councils across the country are now considering if some of its roads can be switched back to 30mph. Though, in Denbighshire, none of its “new” 20mph roads will be proposed to revert back to a 30mph speed limit.
