January 14, 1962 - September 14, 2025 On Sept. 14 I lost the most courageous man I've ever known: My brother Clint Winchester. He was 63 years old. Clint was born on Jan. 14, 1962, in Choteau, MT. He attended school in Waukomis, OK, and was an all-state basketball player for Waukomis High School. Unfortunately at age 17 he was in a head-on collision. The accident left his body crushed and broken for the next 46 years. But it neither crushed nor broke his spirit. In that body he lived a full life, never feeling sorry for himself, meeting and overcoming every challenge with determination and humor. He made friends quicker than anyone and literally hundreds of people are mourning his passing. He did not make this journey alone. So many, many people helped him along the way. I will mention a few. Forgive me if I miss you and know how appreciative we are. First and foremost, my parents, June and Dwight, who were unwavering in their devotion to his health and recovery and giving him the best life possible — who were his primary caregivers in their home for years. To my brothers, Eric Winchester, Scott Winchester and Bill Winchester, who never let his condition keep them from treating him just as their brother Clint. Thank you to all the home health care people during those years, most especially my wonderful wife, Barbara Winchester, who I met and fell in love with while she was caring for Clint. I'm sure she fell in love with him first, then me. Clint spent around 30 years in the magnificent Reach Inc. program in Bozeman, MT, whose staff he loved and who loved him back. This was clearly evidenced in his last few days, as Reach staff past and present visited him by the dozens at the hospital, sharing wonderful stories and tears and giving Barb and I great support. In recent years Clint managed to "unsurprisingly" put together a group of beer drinking friends. Thank you Les Larsen, Todd Lamb, and Eric Schaber. No truer friends have ever existed. Also a huge thank you to the wonderful staff at the Bozeman Health CCU. Your professionalism and compassion for Clint and for us made a difficult situation so much more bearable. To my sons, Philip and Ian, for their support and their hugs. And finally and most importantly thank you my loving God for watching over Clint all these years. And my heart is joyful today knowing today he walked into your waiting arms. Clint was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and June Winchester. He is survived by his brothers and their wives: Eric and Kit Winchester of Tampa, FL, Scott and Melody Winchester of McKinney, TX, Bill and Peggy Winchester of Waukomis, OK, Jay and Barbara Winchester of Bozeman, MT; and his sister, Maria Murphy Sweet of Nampa, ID.
