According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, buildings constructed or renovated before 1992—a majority of Rollins’ campus—do not need to be made accessible until it is scheduled for a major renovation. During the semester before her transfer, Rivera met with Accessibility Services, Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, and other administrators to point out the accessibility problems on campus. Starting next fall, students who need accessible classrooms will be marked in an online system to have buildings checked for physical barriers to allow the Office of Accessibility to address mobility concerns before students arrive at class.
