Bells rang across the nation Wednesday as organizations and individuals participated in the annual Bells Across America event, marking the start of Constitution Week, which runs Sept. 17-23. The event, rooted in tradition, was organized locally to encourage Kennett residents to reflect on the nation’s founding document and its enduring legacy. The celebration of Constitution Week began in 1955 when the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to designate a week each September for observance. The Daughters of the American Revolution, a group dedicated to preserving American history and promoting patriotism, sponsors the event. Bells summoned the people of Philadelphia for the first public readings of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
