Feng Youlan goes on to say that most translations of Chinese—particularly classical Chinese, which is even denser than modern Chinese because it was especially designed for literary purposes—fail in communicating such suggestiveness and so fail to translate a great deal of what’s going on aesthetically and cognitively in a translated text.
