Peter Dempster, BEM, inspired generations of kids to swim for over eight decades, leading to his accolade from British royalty. At the age of 10, he joined Clydebank Swimming Club, where he would go on to inspire, teach and become a legend in the eyes of all those who knew him. "I know it might sound exaggerated, but there probably weren't many people in Clydebank who didn't learn to swim; my dad would teach everybody." Peter the coach may have been a legend, right enough, but Peter the man was a hero to us all, and anyone who knew him can attest to that.
