The VA has officially announced that the much-anticipated new outpatient clinic, scheduled to be built in Farmington, is now cancelled. The existing Robert Silvey outpatient clinic will continue to operate. Despite stating in April that “This project is still being reviewed and no decision has been made,” on July 16, Lacey McClintock, Chief of Communications at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, confirmed what had been circulating as rumor since April and stated: “After a thorough review, plans to build a new VA facility in Farmington have been canceled. The new outpatient clinic would have benefited local veterans and their families who currently must travel to Poplar Bluff or St. Louis for medical services they cannot receive at the current Farmington clinic. Upon completion, the facility was expected to employ approximately 120 people, comprising both clinical and support staff.
