Flood wardens play a key role in activating defences and assisting vulnerable residents, but numbers have declined in recent years. Councillor David Whipp, leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: "We all remember the devastating floods of December 2015. "That showed how crucial it is to have local volunteers who can respond quickly and help get flood defences in place." To rebuild the volunteer network, the council is hosting an event at Earby Fire Station on Saturday, September 27, from 10am to 2pm.
