The Cave Rescue Organisation received a call at 1.36pm on Saturday to reports that a male walker had fainted on Whernside. A spokesperson for the Cave Rescue Organisation said: “A male Three Peaks walker fainted and was then in and out of consciousness, ‘three quarters of the way up Whernside’. “Another walker provided a shelter and called for help. “Most team members met at Ribblehead and were transferred to the Blea Moor aqueduct in team Land Rovers, while one went to the Three Peaks descent path to seek other walkers’ help in identifying the casualty’s location. “This was a shorter, simpler descent than that down the Chapel le dale side of the hill, with the added advantage of not ‘tangling’ with other walkers but was just as wet and windy.”
