Suitably monumental, at 162 minutes, the film finds Leonardo DiCaprio gunning hard for his sophomore Oscar as Bob Ferguson, an off-grid ex-revolutionary, clinging to life in a state of permanent, drug-informed, paranoia. One Battle After Another is Anderson's second stab at the writings of Thomas Pynchon, after 2014's Inherent Vice. This time, Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineyard proves the inspiration, albeit superficially. One Battle After Another is to Vineyard what a grape is to a bottle of white.
