JASON SETNYKTraffic volumes across the Seaway International Bridge connecting Cornwall, ON, to New York State have fallen sharply, particularly among commercial trucks, amid continuing and growing Canada-U.S. trade tensions. According to figures from the Seaway International Bridge Corporation, truck transits dropped by nearly 29% in August 2025 compared to the same month last year. The numbers suggest a worsening and sustained decline in commercial traffic between Cornwall and New York State. In contrast, car traffic dipped more moderately-by 4.9% in August, 5.6% in July, and less than 1% in June. The more modest decline in car traffic may be partly attributed to residents of Akwesasne, whose daily cross-border travel for work, family, and essential services remains consistent despite broader travel boycotts.
