The Attorney General claims that Meta’s practices violate New Mexico’s Unfair Practices Act and have created a “public nuisance” by “creating and maintaining a condition that is harmful to the health and safety of thousands of New Mexico residents and interfered with the enjoyment of life in violation of New Mexico law.” Well, I think like a lot of people who have been engaged in this space for some time, attorneys general, policymakers here in Washington and across the country, I have been increasingly concerned about the psychological harm and specifically the increasing evidence of the linkage I believe exists between rising levels of anxiety and depression and excessive social media use.
