There are now more options for Evanstonians to get to downtown Chicago (or as far north as Kenosha) on the weekend. Effective Saturday, Metra has added two round trips on Saturdays, and six on Sundays on the UP-North line (not counting Ravinia trains, which only run when there is an event at the outdoor concert venue). Each weekend day will now have the same level of service (15 round trips), basically hourly, with a couple of two-hour gaps in certain day parts. The commuter rail agency says it still faces a $160 million fiscal cliff deficit, part of the $771 million cliff for Metra, CTA, and PACE combined. The Illinois legislature is expected to tackle the fiscal cliff next month when lawmakers return for the fall veto session.
